Why Betting Against The LA Kings Might Actually Make Sense

If you’ve ever been inside the Venetian or the Palazzo or Bellagio, or pretty much any place on Las Vegas Boulevard not named Imperial Palace, you know casinos aren’t in the business of giving money away.

Blackjack is designed to give the house just enough of an edge to make money over time. Roulette, craps and slot machines are the same way, just to more of an extreme.

And sportsbooks, though certainly not the biggest revenue source for casino operators, aren’t run by idiots either.

The Los Angeles Kings certainly look unstoppable right now. Save for a 3-1 loss to the Canucks in Game 4 of the opening round, the Kings have won all of their other postseason contests and held opponents to two goals or less in all of those victories.

Who in their right mind would want to bet against the Kings right now?

That might be what will soon make betting against the Kings the more prudent choice.

Maybe not now, with L.A. up 3-0 on the Phoenix Coyotes in the West…

Champions League Final Betting Preview: Home Field Slight Advantage

Bayern Munich head coach Jupp Heynckes believes that his side’s Champions League final against Chelsea could go either way, despite the Germans having home advantage.

The two sides go head-to-head in the Allianz Arena on Saturday, with Bayern -250 favourites at Bet365 to lift the trophy, while the Blues are +200 to win the tournament for the first time in their history and +1400 to win the final on penalties. The over/under total for the contest is set at 2.5 goals.

Heynckes thinks that home advantage will count for little, telling UEFA.com: “The match will be open and the chances are 50-50, but it might be a little advantage to play here at home.

“They have a lot of experienced players in their team and it’s clear that the veterans, the players who’ve been playing at Chelsea for many years, want to win something big. That’s very dangerous for us.”

Heynckes will be without the services of suspended trio…

FA Cup Betting Preview: Liverpool Captain Expects Tight Game

Steven Gerrard wants another trophy.

The Liverpool captain is expecting a tight game between the two sides, and thinks Roberto Di Matteo’s side will not be distracted by their forthcoming Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

Chelsea looks likely to miss out on qualification for next year’s Champions League through the league and will be under pressure to defeat Bayern on their home ground. However, Gerrard believes they will be fully focused on lifting the FA Cup at Wembley.

A 1-0 win for Liverpool can be backed at +700 at Bet365, with Gerrard at +1000 to score first. A clean sheet for the Anfield side can be backed at +225.

“Chelsea are an experienced team full of quality players and it will boil down to the small details on the day, who gets the big decisions and who gets that stroke of luck,” said the England international.

“I don’t think there is much between the teams and I think it is a 50-50 game at the weekend.”

NHL Playoff Betting: Heavy Favourites In East For Round 1

If you’re rooting for upsets in this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs, you’re more likely to find them in the Western Conference.

That’s what oddsmakers seem to think, at least, after making all four first-round favourites in the East roughly 2:1 favourites to advance to Round 2.

The biggest favourites in Round 1 are the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins. Both are listed as -225 to -230 favourites at Pinnacle Sports, SportsInteraction and Bet365.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and New Jersey Devils are both listed in the -200 range for their opening-round series.

In the West, the only heavy favourite is the Vancouver Canucks, who are -200 chalk against the L.A. Kings. The St. Louis Blues are favoured in the -155 to -160 range at Pinnacle Sports, SportsInteraction and Bet365, while the Nashville Predators and Chicago Blackhawks are -125 favourites in their respective series.

Chicago and New Jersey are the only teams in the first round to be favoured despite not having home-ice advantage.

NHL Playoff Betting Odds: Penguins Favoured To Win Stanley Cup

The Pittsburgh Penguins will enter the 2012 NHL playoffs as the betting favourite to win the Stanley Cup.

Pittsburgh is a +445 (roughly 4.5 to 1) favourite at Pinnacle Sports to win it all, despite finishing fourth overall in the NHL regular season and having a tough first-round series with the cross-state rival Philadelphia Flyers.

The defending Western Conference champion Vancouver Canucks — one of two Canadian teams in this year’s tournament — aren’t far behind the Pens in the eyes of oddsmakers. Vancouver, the top seed in the East, pays +480 to win the Cup.

Rounding out the top five are the New York Rangers (+805), Boston Bruins (+908) and St. Louis Blues (+918).

Potential darkhorses include the Flyers (+1285), Detroit Red Wings (+1285), Nashville Predators (+1603), Chicago Blackhawks (+1708) and San Jose Sharks (+1922).

Canada’s other hopes, the Ottawa Senators, are listed as a +3198 longshot. Only the Florida Panthers (+4265) are considered less likely by oddsmakers to win the Cup this spring.

MLB Baseball Betting Preview: Jays Could Contend For Extra Wildcard Spot

This is an important season in the history of the Toronto Blue Jays, who haven’t been to the postseason since going back-to-back in the World Series in 1992 and 1993. But with one more wild-card spot up for grabs in the American League (there is also an added wild-card in the National League as well), the Blue Jays could be back in the postseason sooner than anyone thought.

From baseball experts and insiders to MLB betting sharps, the Blue Jays are the trendy pick to cause some problems with an improving lineup but the pitching will have to step up, particularly the starters, if Toronto wants to move up in the always-tough American League East.

Odds to win 2012 AL Pennant at Bodog
New York Yankees 13/4
Los Angeles Angels 7/2
Detroit Tigers 4/1
Toronto Blue Jays 22/1

Starting Pitching

Ricky Romero is the unquestioned ace after his All-Star 2011 campaign but after that, Toronto’s rotation is shaky. Brandon Morrow has the stuff to be an ace but he is wildly…

Masters Golf Betting Preview: Most Anticipated Masters Since Tiger Woods Turned Pro

It’s a great time of year to be a sports fan.

Not only does Major League Baseball’s regular season get into full swing Thursday (don’t you hate how some teams have already played games, spoiling the tradition of Opening Day?), but the Masters championship – a sure sign of spring if there ever was one – also gets underway in Augusta, Georgia.

Here’s Sports Interaction betting analyst Frank Doyle’s breakdown of this year’s tournament:

Masters betting preview

This is the most anticipated Masters since Tiger Woods turned pro in 1997. Tiger’s returned to form three years after the shipwreck of his personal life has galvanised interest in the first major of the season, as proven by Tiger’s status as the ante-post favorite for the competition.

Even if Tiger hadn’t come back, Rory McIlroy’s return to Augusta after his nightmare meltdown last year would be big news. McIlroy just had to hold his nerve to win his first major when he teed up on the final day – instead, he collapsed at the…

Online Sports Betting In Canada Won’t Change Much

So online sports betting is coming to the province of Ontario, and perhaps the rest of Canada?

Please excuse us while we yawn.

Even with the recent passing of legislation that will allow the government to offer single-game wagering in Canada, we don’t see much advantage in it for sports bettors who already prefer using online sportsbooks.

If you’re at all familiar with Proline, you know that the provincial lotteries stack the odds against us. Not only does Proline require you to bet a minimum of two games (and most often three) at a time (known as a parlay), it also doesn’t pay you even close to what you should be paid if you win all your games.

Don’t expect things to change that much once the government starts offering single-game wagering, either.

Las Vegas sportsbooks typically offer point spread betting with a “juice” (or vigorish) structure of -110. In other words, you need to lay 11 to win 10, or 110 to win 100, and so forth. At that juice structure, bettors…

March Madness Cash Promotion At Sports Interaction

As if betting on March Madness wasn’t fun enough already, Sports Interaction is offering even more reason to get in the game.

For every bet ($25 or higher) that you place on the NCAA basketball tournament at Sports Interaction, you’ll get at least one ticket into three cash bonus draws.

Sixty-eight cash bonuses of $50 will be awarded in the first three rounds of the tournament. The Sweet 16 will feature 16 cash bonuses of $100, while the Final Four draw will have one grand prize of $5,000.

Any single NCAA tournament or NIT bet between $25 and $49.99 will earn one ticket towards the draws. If you parlay the bet, you’ll get two tickets. And if you make your wager on Sports Interaction’s mobile betting site, you’ll earn twice the amount of tickets you’re entitled to.

The number of tickets you’ll get increase if your wager does. On any single NCAA tournament or NIT bet you make between $50 and $99.99, you’ll get three tickets (six for a parlay, six…
