Why Betting Against The LA Kings Might Actually Make Sense

If you’ve ever been inside the Venetian or the Palazzo or Bellagio, or pretty much any place on Las Vegas Boulevard not named Imperial Palace, you know casinos aren’t in the business of giving money away.

Blackjack is designed to give the house just enough of an edge to make money over time. Roulette, craps and slot machines are the same way, just to more of an extreme.

And sportsbooks, though certainly not the biggest revenue source for casino operators, aren’t run by idiots either.

The Los Angeles Kings certainly look unstoppable right now. Save for a 3-1 loss to the Canucks in Game 4 of the opening round, the Kings have won all of their other postseason contests and held opponents to two goals or less in all of those victories.

Who in their right mind would want to bet against the Kings right now?

That might be what will soon make betting against the Kings the more prudent choice.

Maybe not now, with L.A. up 3-0 on the Phoenix Coyotes in the West…

Champions League Final Betting Preview: Home Field Slight Advantage

Bayern Munich head coach Jupp Heynckes believes that his side’s Champions League final against Chelsea could go either way, despite the Germans having home advantage.

The two sides go head-to-head in the Allianz Arena on Saturday, with Bayern -250 favourites at Bet365 to lift the trophy, while the Blues are +200 to win the tournament for the first time in their history and +1400 to win the final on penalties. The over/under total for the contest is set at 2.5 goals.

Heynckes thinks that home advantage will count for little, telling UEFA.com: “The match will be open and the chances are 50-50, but it might be a little advantage to play here at home.

“They have a lot of experienced players in their team and it’s clear that the veterans, the players who’ve been playing at Chelsea for many years, want to win something big. That’s very dangerous for us.”

Heynckes will be without the services of suspended trio…

FA Cup Betting Preview: Liverpool Captain Expects Tight Game

Steven Gerrard wants another trophy.

The Liverpool captain is expecting a tight game between the two sides, and thinks Roberto Di Matteo’s side will not be distracted by their forthcoming Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

Chelsea looks likely to miss out on qualification for next year’s Champions League through the league and will be under pressure to defeat Bayern on their home ground. However, Gerrard believes they will be fully focused on lifting the FA Cup at Wembley.

A 1-0 win for Liverpool can be backed at +700 at Bet365, with Gerrard at +1000 to score first. A clean sheet for the Anfield side can be backed at +225.

“Chelsea are an experienced team full of quality players and it will boil down to the small details on the day, who gets the big decisions and who gets that stroke of luck,” said the England international.

“I don’t think there is much between the teams and I think it is a 50-50 game at the weekend.”

Canadian Hockey League Betting At Sports Interaction

The National Hockey League playoffs aren’t the only hockey postseason action you can be betting on.

Sports Interaction also offers season-long betting on the Canadian Hockey League, which includes the Western Hockey League (WHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The sportsbook will of course offer Memorial Cup betting later this year as well.

Check out Sports Interaction if you are interested in betting on some CHL hockey this spring.

NHL Betting: Flyers Are New Stanley Cup Favourite

Move over, Pittsburgh Penguins and Vancouver Canucks. There’s a new Stanley Cup favourite in town.

After taking a surprising 3-0 series lead on the Penguins in the opening round, the Philadelphia Flyers are now the betting favourite to hoist the Cup this spring. Philadelphia is listed at +375 (slightly less than 4:1) odds at Bet365 to be this year’s NHL champion.

The Los Angeles Kings, also enjoying a 3-0 lead in their first-round series against the Canucks, aren’t far behind Philadelphia at +450. Rounding out the top five are the New York Rangers (+600), Nashville Predators (+700) and Boston Bruins (+800).

Pittsburgh, the favourite before the playoffs began, is now a +4000 (40:1) longshot to win the Cup. Vancouver is +2800. Both the Penguins and Canucks were paying below 5:1 at the start of the playoffs.

Blue Jays MLB Betting: Bodog Previews Series Against Orioles, Rays

The first week of the regular season is in the books and Toronto has gotten off to a great start with four wins in its first two series, taking two of three against Cleveland (on the road) and Boston (at home).

Toronto has been annointed as a team to watch for MLB betting sharps and while it’s still too early in the season to jump the gun, it has to be encouraging for Blue Jays fans to see how they have played over the first six games.

The Blue Jays won’t be leaving Toronto this week as they welcome Baltimore and Tampa Bay to the Rogers Center. Here’s a look at those series before the first pitch is thrown.

(Betting preview provided by Bodog Canada)

Baltimore Orioles, Friday April 13th – Sunday April 15th

Following an afternoon win over the Red Sox on Wednesday, the Blue Jays get a day off on Thursday before taking on the Orioles on Friday. The Orioles offer some great MLB betting value but that’s because they’re a…

Proline Hockey Betting: Odds Are Worse On V+ And H+ Bets

If you’ve ever played Proline, you’ve likely been tempted by the bigger payouts offered by the V+ and H+ columns.

Proline’s V+ and H+ mean different things in different sports. In hockey betting, it means either the visiting or the home team is required to win by two goals or more. In baseball betting, the team you bet on has to win by two runs or more. In football betting, that spread is inflated to over a touchdown.

You likely realize there’s a tradeoff with taking the fatter odds on the V+ and H+ bets. It’s far less likely for teams to win by those margins in sports, so you’re a lot less likely to win your V+ and H+ picks. That explains why you get a bit extra on your bet.

But how much extra should you be getting when you take the V+ and H+ bets?

Here’s the answer: Way more than Proline is offering you. Often more than double what Proline is offering you, in fact.

I found this out today when…

NHL Playoff Betting: Heavy Favourites In East For Round 1

If you’re rooting for upsets in this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs, you’re more likely to find them in the Western Conference.

That’s what oddsmakers seem to think, at least, after making all four first-round favourites in the East roughly 2:1 favourites to advance to Round 2.

The biggest favourites in Round 1 are the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins. Both are listed as -225 to -230 favourites at Pinnacle Sports, SportsInteraction and Bet365.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and New Jersey Devils are both listed in the -200 range for their opening-round series.

In the West, the only heavy favourite is the Vancouver Canucks, who are -200 chalk against the L.A. Kings. The St. Louis Blues are favoured in the -155 to -160 range at Pinnacle Sports, SportsInteraction and Bet365, while the Nashville Predators and Chicago Blackhawks are -125 favourites in their respective series.

Chicago and New Jersey are the only teams in the first round to be favoured despite not having home-ice advantage.

NHL Playoff Betting Odds: Penguins Favoured To Win Stanley Cup

The Pittsburgh Penguins will enter the 2012 NHL playoffs as the betting favourite to win the Stanley Cup.

Pittsburgh is a +445 (roughly 4.5 to 1) favourite at Pinnacle Sports to win it all, despite finishing fourth overall in the NHL regular season and having a tough first-round series with the cross-state rival Philadelphia Flyers.

The defending Western Conference champion Vancouver Canucks — one of two Canadian teams in this year’s tournament — aren’t far behind the Pens in the eyes of oddsmakers. Vancouver, the top seed in the East, pays +480 to win the Cup.

Rounding out the top five are the New York Rangers (+805), Boston Bruins (+908) and St. Louis Blues (+918).

Potential darkhorses include the Flyers (+1285), Detroit Red Wings (+1285), Nashville Predators (+1603), Chicago Blackhawks (+1708) and San Jose Sharks (+1922).

Canada’s other hopes, the Ottawa Senators, are listed as a +3198 longshot. Only the Florida Panthers (+4265) are considered less likely by oddsmakers to win the Cup this spring.
